It’s a plain old-fashioned price war, not so much a ‘crash’. The Saudis want to force the highest-cost U.S. shale producers out of the business. That will take a while; right now those producers are still filling old contracts at $90 or so per bbl, but once those contracts are filled many of them won’t survive long at $60 or $70. Once the Saudis have the U.S. production level back down to what they consider acceptable the price will rise again. Give that a year or so.
