Ambush In LA: Gunmen Now Targeting Cops From Coast To Coast

According to reports, two Los Angeles police officers were fired on by two suspects as they responded to a call around 9:20 p.m. Sunday. LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar spoke to KTLA as investigators and tactical teams shut down a six-block area in search for one of the subjects.
She explained that one suspect was in custody at the time and at least one firearm was recovered at the scene. The officers reportedly returned fire and were able to escape injury in the incident.
“We do have a weapon recovered,” Aguilar confirmed. “It is still in a very active tactical situation right now, meaning it is in an area being searched by our SWAT team.”
The search for a second individual continued Sunday evening with LAPD officers being aided by county authorities, she said.
A building animosity between certain segments of the American population and members of the law enforcement community culminated in the shooting deaths of two New York police officers earlier this month. Aguilar confirmed that such a contentious climate is a factor in the LAPD’s response to this latest incident.
“Nationwide right now,” she said, “there is obviously a discussion going on. Our officers are very aware of that. Is that is a concern? It’s always in the back of the mind that you could be a target of somebody’s anger and have something like this happen. It’s absolutely a concern.”
As of Monday morning, the intensive multiagency search had been discontinued. Aguilar updated her original statement, confirming investigators still “do not have a face or a name” of the person she described as “obviously a dangerous individual who does not belong on the streets of Los Angeles.”
