Do Americans fully comprehend Islam?

(Before It's News)

Only 16% of likely voters think Taliban represents Islamic faith

Troubling news regarding a monumental disconnect on fundamentalist Islam comes via recent Rasmussen Polling on the Taliban. The national survey (questions here) polled 1,000 likely voters.

Just 16% of Americans think the Taliban, the Islamic fundamentalist group in Afghanistan that last week took credit for the murder of 130 school children, actually represents the Islamic faith.

While many moderate Muslims believe the fundamentalists undermine the image of Islam, they follow the same Quran, which commands there is no provision for Muslims as a nation or community of believers (the Ummah) to be split into sects and schisms.

In response to the question, “Do you believe the Taliban represents true Islamic beliefs?” 69% of likely voters responded no; only 16% said yes; and another 16% said they weren’t sure.

Ponder that.

A 2013 Pew Research Center survey of Muslims around the globe found that most adherents of the world’s second-largest religion are deeply committed to their faith and want its teachings to shape not only their personal lives but also their societies and politics. Many also think their religious leaders should have influence over political matters —-  expressing a desire for Sharia –– traditional and restrictive Islamic law –– to be recognized as the official law of the country in which they live.

Don’t delude yourself into thinking this is confined to distant lands with no relevance in our lives. Islamic law has now been adopted by British legal chiefs and integrated into the legal system as solicitors are told how to draw up Sharia-compliant wills penalizing widows and non-Muslims. Solicitors prepare documents and can advise clients, while only barristers can appear in court.

The U.K.‘s Telegraph reports High Street solicitors can now write Islamic wills that deny women an equal share of inheritances and exclude unbelievers altogether. The documents, recognized by Britain’s courts, will also prevent children born out-of-wedlock –– and even those who have been adopted –– from being counted as legitimate heirs. Those married in a church or civil ceremony would be excluded from succession under Sharia principles, which recognize only Muslim weddings for inheritance purposes.

“Male heirs in most cases receive double the amount inherited by a female heir of the same class,” the guidance says. “Non-Muslims may not inherit at all, and only Muslim marriages are recognized.”

Solicitors are instructed to draft special exclusions from the Wills Act 1837, which allows gifts to pass to the children of an heir who has died, because this is not recognized in Islamic law.

This British newscast (video) reveals Islam is the fastest growing religion in Great Britain, doubling in the past few years and poised to surpass Christianity within a decade as church participation dramatically declines. Mohammad is the most popular name for baby boys in London.

Ponder that.
