The Fort Lauderdale ordinance that has become infamous throughout the world in just one month has now been suspended by a Florida judge.
Broward Circuit Judge Thomas Lynch suspended enforcement of the ordinance restricting the all public feeding of homeless people. But the suspension is only for 30 days so far. During that time, the judge has ordered mediation on the issue.
The suspension came after a challenge to the ordinance by 90-year-old homeless advocate Arnold Abbott.
Abbot had been repeatedly cited and arrested after openly defying the ban. Others have protested the ban in other ways, including one woman who has been hunger-striking since the ban was implemented.
This decision comes just one day after Anonymous “hacktivists” shut down the Fort Lauderdale city websites.
