Although many people still don’t believe that the beheading of Western hostages by the Islamic State actually occurred, the suggestion that they would be willing to hand over a headless body in return for $1,000,000 is repugnant.
A senior official in the Free Syrian Army has stated that IS want to sell the body to Foleys family or to the American government, and that they are willing to provide DNA to prove that the body is indeed Foleys. Speaking to Buzzfeed the man said:
“They ask for $1 million, and they will send DNA to Turkey, but they want the money first,” said the former rebel to the website. “They will not give the DNA without the money.”
With at least 15 European hostages being released after the payment of ransoms, the alleged murder of hostages has been aimed at American and UK citizens as both governments refuse to negotiate payments in return for the release of hostages.
Former U.S. Navy Seal Robert O’Neill, recently in the news for his claims that he was the man who shot dead Osama bin Laden Tweeted:
ISIS is trying to sell James Foley’s headless body to his parents for $1M. Anybody REALLY care if we waterboard these lowlifes?

A sentiment most likely to be shared by many. An official with the U.S. State Department said:
“we are seeking more information” on whether ISIS is trying to sell the remains of U.S. hostages. A senior U.S. diplomat called the idea “disgusting.”
