NAACP: NY police slayings show “need for sensible gun control”
Liberal-speak: Criminals kill, law-abiding citizens lose their Second Amendment rights
Exhibiting a disconnect from reality, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law issued this statement saying the execution of NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos demonstrates “the need for sensible gun control.”
Trying to remember their unwieldy name(s) has obviously had an effect on the judgment of the groups’ members.
The NAACPLDF and LCCRUL’s message cautioned against suggesting “a causal link between these killings and the recent protests and activism focused on the serious issue of police violence against unarmed African Americans.” The groups suggest that pushing such a “causal link” may escalate “an already tense state through rumor and conjecture.”
In other words, they implore Americans to ignore reality.
The vacuous statement continues: “These two killings and the life-threatening injury, like so many other unfortunate incidences of gun violence, provide a stark example of the need for sensible gun control measures, and the need to thoughtfully address untreated mental illness.”
Aha! Planning and inflicting carnage that the murder himself referred to as “revenge,’ is a mental health issue. As we noted yesterday, prior to Ismaaiyl Abdulah Brinsley spineless execution of NYPD officers Liu, 32, and Ramos, 40, the killer posted on Instagram “I’m Putting Wings on Pigs Today. They Take 1 Of Ours…Let’s Take 2 of Theirs #ShootThePolice #RIPErivGardner #RIPMikeBrown This May Be My Final Post.” The image of a silver handgun accompanied the macabre message.
From the tone of its statement, it appears the NAACP must have missed the “protests” that quickly escalated into fiery riots and looting recently taking place in Ferguson, Missouri.
Based in Baltimore, the NAACP blatantly ignores the astronomical and ongoing black-on-black homicide rate in that city. These are the most recent 100 homicides courtesy of The Baltimore Sun. A navigation aid is in the upper right corner.
The NAACP is also silent regarding the fact that the assassination of the officers took place in a state with exceedingly strict gun control laws —- among the most restrictive in the nation —- tightened further by the state legislature in 2013. We all know such laws are worthless against the criminal intent of a determined and cold-blooded gunman. The so-called Safe Act, signed into law by Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo has not stopped a single gun crime, but restricts the Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. That, we need to remember, is the ultimate goal of the left.
