Stop!!! Make Up Is Eating Your Skin Daily

By: Melissa Mellie | Dermology -

Make-up is an age old resolve to all the skin worries faced by women. They use a lot of products to enhance their looks and also hide the flaws. Thus on one hand it is a boon, but at the other it becomes a bane because of the allergic skin scavengers present in the form of chemicals in them. Wherein make-up can make you look beautiful, it is insanity to live in total ignorance regarding its ingredients and their capability to do good and bad to your skin. It is an even bigger sin to just land in a big cosmetic store and buy the most expensive product or the one endorsed by your favorite celeb or a supermodel. This is what you should do:

  • Research before purchasing: You must know your skin type and its requirements. The weather also demands change in your make-up products, so buy products accordingly.
  • Stay away from harmful chemicals: There are plenty of ingredients that have been proven unsafe by different studies. Stay away from the products containing them.

Here are a few harmful ingredients you should stay away from while buying the make up products to avert potential damage.

Aluminium powder is a neurotoxin - It affects the cellular and metabolic processes of the nervous system. Over exposure can lead to mercury toxicity in the body.

Propylene Glycol – is skin allergen and can result in contact dermatitis.

Vitamin A Acetate – can bring in biochemical changes and can cause mutations as well, a possible carcinogen.

Sodium lauryl sulphate – can cause skin allergies in a variety of skin types. Mineral powder – can enter the skin and can even kill you.

Research the ingredients on the label well before slathering any make up product on your face. This is how you can save your skin:

  1. Buy the right product: Buy the right product sans any harmful product which suits your skin type.
  2. Sharing is injurious to the skin: One should not share personal make-up products with others. If you do so, you share your bacteria which can cause skin infections later on.
  3. Routine is lethal: Some personal habits like sleeping with your make-up on can kill your chances of having a blemish-free skin, since the make up you are using can block your skin pores and this can lead to an acne outburst.
  4. Be aware of the product’s shelf life: Every cosmetic product has a shelf life. Do not use any beyond that phase. It can invite some unwanted harm to the skin. So, be mindful of it.

All the factors that we have discussed in this article make it absolutely important to choose your daily use cosmetics wisely. Though no amount of chemicals is good but living in an age where physical beauty matters in every sphere of life, pick the right kind of products that can make your skin look healthy. Always use skincare products – these are so formulated that they promote skin health so that it looks beautiful naturally. They penetrate deep in the skin and repair it from within making it look flawless and anew. This also means that you would not need any harmful make-up products laden with dangerous chemicals to look beautiful. Besides this, eat a well-balanced diet with lots of fruits and veggies and drink plenty of water.
