(Before It's News)

n a commencement address at Stanford in 2005, Steve Jobs once said, “For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been no for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”These words ring bells to my ears.

The satisfaction of having a productive morning is something we all dream about, unfortunately it not always happens. The success we feel when we complete tasks we set out brings tears to our eyes and joy to our hearts. Here are 10 things successful people do to avoid unproductive morning.

10. Prepare the night before.

It’s not productive to prepare the next day’s task the morning of. The night before, select and put out the clothes you want to wear, update your to-do list and make sure your lunch bag is packed with the nutritional foods you like. Doing so will make your mornings more productive and less stressful. Here are just ten easy lunches that you can prepare quickly.

9. Go to sleep early.

Dalai Lama once said, “Sleep is the best meditation.” Successful and productive people manage their families, careers and responsibilities with ease and clean shirts. Their secret to success? They get the proper sleep they need each and every night. That means that if you want to be early to rise, you have to hit the sack early, as well. Stick to a strict sleep schedule. Pick activities that will help you do that: read before bed, meditate in the evening, or drink green tea.

8. Wake up early and don’t hit the snooze button.

snooze button and alarm

Feeling tempted to hit the snooze button? Avoid it! Why? Because during the sleep cycle the body alternates between light sleep and deep (REM) sleep. About an hour before your eyes open, the body begins to “reboot.” The brain sends out signals to release hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, the body temperature rises, and we enter into a lighter sleep in preparation to be woken up. In order avoid pressing the snooze button, place the alarm clock far away from your bed, so you will have to walk some distance in order to turn it off. And once you are out of bed, there’s no point in returning. Hit the showers, so you wake up fully.

7. Avoid going online right after waking up.

Facebook

Don’t check your social media accounts or work email immediately after getting out of bed. Instead, opt to check your emails and social media accounts in the afternoon so you protect the peak energy hours of your mornings for your best work. If you have to post something in the morning, schedule it. Use Buffer or Hootsuite to help you.

6. Have a hearty breakfast.

Your mother’s nagging shouldn’t be put to waste: Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Not only does it give you the energy boost you need to function throughout the day, but breakfast is linked to many health benefits, including weight control and improved performance. Take your time to eat, don’t rush and make sure you eat the hearty and nutritional stuff.
