The New York Police Department is involved in a massive manhunt for two robbery suspects responsible for shooting two NYPD police officers in the Bronx.
When plain clothes officers Andrew Dossi and Aliro Pellarano responded to a robbery call late Monday night at a Chinese food restaurant they were met with gun fire. Dossi was shot in the arm and lower back, while Pellarano was hit in the arm with another bullet grazing his chest. Both officers were transported to a hospital and are expected to survive.
The plain-clothes officers spotted two men who resembled suspects in a nearby grocery store robbery about 10:35 p.m. near the corner of East 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue. As they approached, one of the men opened fire before the pair fled, police said.
“I heard three or four shots,” said neighbor Alejandra Hernandez, 42. “They were one after another and very loud. I didn’t know what happened. A little later, I heard a couple helicopters flying over.”
The officers returned fire at the suspects as they ran east to Marion Avenue, where they stole a white Camaro and escaped, police said. (DNAinfo)
It is not believed that the incident is directly related to last months ambush of two NYPD officers who were killed while sitting in a parked police cruiser.
In the surveillance video below a man can be seen entering what appears to be a convenience store after having robbed a nearby store. Out of view of the camera police arrive on the scene and the man immediately turns and draws his weapon to open fire. The suspect has not yet been identified. Police in New York have launched a massive manhunt.
