The Burning of Columbia

Some of the events planned to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the destruction of about one-third of Columbia during the brief occupation by Gen. William T. Sherman’s troops:

Jan. 8: Presentation on Sherman’s March up Old State Road to the Capitol, by historian Dean Hunt, Richland Library, Main Branch, 1431 Assembly St., 6 p.m., free

Jan. 11: Second Sunday Rolls, Bus Tour of Civil War Sites, Robert Mills House, 1616 Blanding St., 2-3:30 p.m., $12 adults, $6 children, free under 6

Jan. 11: Book discussion, “Sherman’s Flame and Blame,” author Patricia McNeely, Richland Library, Main Branch, 1431 Assembly St., 3-4 p.m., free
