- Raif Badawi, a Saudi blogger, was sentenced to 10 years in jail and 1,000 lashes after starting a website for social and political debate – demand his release today.
Update: On Friday 9 January, Raif Badawi received 50 lashes last Friday, while the rest of the full sentence of 1,000 lashes will be carried out, apparently every week on Fridays, for a period of 19 weeks. Please take action now.
Raif was given new hope last night after the apparent intervention of the king.
Bowing to massive international pressure, King Abdullah has referred the case of Raif Badawi to the country’s supreme court.
