Nel Taylor, a spokeswoman for ResCare, said in an email that the man, who had autism, became agitated and ran from his home. The staff member who lives there tried to follow him but couldn’t convince him to return, Taylor said.

At 6:26 a.m., police responded to a house in Brantley Bend where police said the man had broken into and had been shot by the homeowner.
Police said the homeowner had been alerted of the banging by his wife and told police he feared for the life of himself and his family, including his three children.
