MIAMI-DADE (INTELLIHUB) — An Army Black Hawk helicopter participating in war gaming drills over the city Wednesday night accidentally dropped 1000 rounds of ammunition overboard in a tin box weighing about 50 pounds.
Although the box and its contents were safely recovered by area police the following day some residents are in shock.
“I think they need to be more careful,” said Bruce Levine of Pembroke Pines where much of the airborne exercise was conducted. “People’s lives are at stake when you make these mistakes and it’s very dangerous.”, CBS Miami reported.
Images of the choppers were captured on video as residents wondered what all of the “loud” commotion was overhead.
“What the hell!”, one woman said on video.
The Army is currently investigating why the ammo was not properly stowed away in the aircraft during the drill as it likely fell out while the chopper was in a “steep bank”.
The Army says the exercises will continue until next Thursday, area residents have been warned.
