(Before It's News)

The rebels in Alabama are at it again, defying an order from the highest court in America to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.

On Monday the Supreme Court (of the Union) decided that same-sex marriages in Alabama could occur until the high court justices issue a more permanent decision.

Meanwhile, in true Confederate spirit, Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore has ordered probate judges not to issue marriage licenses to gays. According to Reuters, “Moore’s chief of staff said the directive still stood despite Monday’s U.S. Supreme Court action.”

Many counties are reportedly complying:

[S]ame-sex couples in 42 of the state’s 67 counties encountered difficulties in getting marriage licenses, gay rights advocates said. Some counties refrained from issuing marriage licenses to gay couples while other counties shut down their marriage license operations altogether, they added.

This isn’t the first time Moore has defied the feds. He’s the same judge who was removed from the bench in 2003 for refusing to take down his 5,280-pound granite monument to the Ten Commandments, which was stationed in Alabama’s judicial building. This being Alabama, voters put him back in office in 2012. Scratch that. This being Alabama, he’s the chief justice of the state Supreme Court, and in open defiance of the law of the land.
