Jonathan Benson,

(NaturalNews) A last-ditch effort to avoid a complete collapse of one of the city’s primary water sources, the city of Sao Paulo in Brazil, population 20 million, has proposed cutting off the water supply up to five days a week, allowing residents to access water only twice per week, or about eight times monthly.

As we reported back in December, Brazil’s largest city is barely surviving the worst recorded drought to ever hit the region. With demand for water far exceeding supply, officials have been frantically working to develop a system that will preserve what little water remains while avoiding a complete breakdown of this large metropolitan region.

The “Sistema Cantareira,” a series of five interconnected reservoirs that under normal conditions provides water for about 9 million of Sao Paulo’s residents, is almost completely dry. According to the latest reports, the utility, which sits almost halfway between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, is down to a mere 5.1 percent of its total capacity of 264 billion gallons of water.

If nothing is done to conserve what little water remains, the entire system will more than likely be dry in a matter of months, and most likely weeks, leaving almost half of the city without water. Consequently, the government is proposing some drastic measures that it says are necessary to prevent a total collapse.

“The government of the state of Sao Paulo has admitted that it may be forced to impose ‘drastic’ and ‘tough’ water rationing in Greater Sao Paulo, with possible cuts to supply of up to five days,” explains the Brazilian news source Folha de S.Paulo. “The government did not provide further details or specify when the plans will come into effect.”

  • Gee, I wonder if the devastation of the Brazilian rain forest has anything to do with it? When you mess with nature and destroy ecosystems, everything else falls like dominoes. Greed is the culprit.

    • mitch51

Same thing is happening in California, but the last time I was there I didn’t see any reason forests.

      • You need a special permit to enter California I wonder if you need one to exit it. Does this mean that the fruit flies are dying off?

    • You hit the nail right on the head Jack, greed has gotten them in trouble with clearing the rain forest, but I think it’s affecting us to sense the rain forest affects the whole world.

      • The rain forest in that part of the world gives off just under 1/3 of the world’s oxygen. A lot of it goes down every day to make room for cows that supply meat for fast food like MacDonalds.

    • EXACTLY…!!!
Destroy the beautiful Rainforest…use chem trails….HAARP….fall victim to the evil cabal.

I was in São Paulo about 5 years ago. At that time they were making drivers with the last number being an even number on their tag only drive 3x per week every other day….ditto for odd numbers on the other altering days. Was told many buy two tags and change daily because would be fined if caught. Soooooo sad.
Was also at Iguazso Falls…very lush and green…many species of butterflies and birds. This area not too commercialized yet. Hope it stays that way. This area is on the Brazil Argentina borders whereas São Paulo is north.

    • Yeah, Jack, stacking 20 MILLION people into the delta-plains of a rain forest had NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, surely. Uh, you DO realize that rain forests are essentially deserts beneath all that green canopy, right?

I know, let’s blame it on Climate Change as a result of Deforestation. We’ll just ignore those 20 million miscreants who refuse to go elsewhere, stop breeding and stop eating.

  • don’t let them BS you … all this anti economic and civil individual liberty policy making we see that does nothing to help the public and is benefiting the hierarchy of our societies worldwide is about this , please read on …..

    Statement For The
Senate Armed Services Committee On Intelligence
    6 February 1997

Lieutenant General Patrick M. Hughes, USA
    Director, Defense Intelligence Agency

Mr. Chairman, I am pleased to have the opportunity to provide a Defense Intelligence Agency perspective on the threats and challenges facing the United States and its interests, now and well into the next century. It is important to note at the outset that this testimony directly reflects the baseline threat assessment DIA has provided to the Joint Staff and the Office of the Secretary of Defense in support of the ongoing Quadrennial Defense Review. This review of the global security environment assumes that the United States remains a global power politically, economically, and militarily, and that our country continues its active engagement in world affairs. If either of those assumptions are wrong, then the threat picture depicted here would change significantly. Finally, this analysis presents a global overview of the future in somewhat linear form — that is, we are providing our best estimate, from today’s perspective, under the working premise that current trends and conditions will continue to evolve along discernible lines. We recognize, however, that the future is non-linear, and that what we present here is likely to change. To address that concern, DIA analysts will continue to examine and study alternatives and excursions to each specific condition, event, and circumstance.

THE NEW ORDER…TRANSITION, TURMOIL, AND UNCERTAINTY

“There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things.” MACHIAVELLI

The world is in the midst of an extended post-Cold War transition that will last at least another decade. Many factors and forces are at work during this transition and some aspects of it have so far been very positive. The community of democratic states is expanding, the world economy has largely recovered from the decline of the late 80′s and early 90′s, and most experts expect steady, positive global economic growth — on the order of four percent per year — well beyond the next decade. From a national security standpoint, the threats facing the United States have diminished in order of magnitude, and we are unlikely to face a global military challenger on the scale of the former Soviet Union for at least the next two decades. The world is spending in real terms some 30-40 percent less on defense than it did during the height of the Cold War, the “rogue”states are relatively isolated, and at least one — North Korea — is probably terminal.

But despite these and other positive developments, this era of transition remains complex and dangerous. In much of the world, there still exists a potentially explosive mix of social, demographic, economic, and political conditions which run counter to the global trend toward democracy and economic reform. I will highlight the most significant of these.

    Demographic Trends

Global population will increase some 20 percent between now and 2010, with 95 percent of that growth occurring in the developing areas that can least afford it. Many of these states will experience the “youth bulge phenomena” (a relatively high percentage of the population between 18 and 25 years of age) which, historically, has been a key factor in instability. At the same time, we are witnessing virtually unchecked urbanization in many developing regions as millions of the world’s poorest people move from rural to urban areas each year. These factors are straining the leadership, infrastructure, and resources of many developing states and regions. Some governments — mostly in the developing world — will be unable to cope with these challenges.

And along with the international concerns about Peak Earth Philosophies The Western Governments through their central banks monetary policies are making everyone dependent on a government handout to control the rate of consumption because they ALL believe this , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZT6YpCsapg
Division politics historically have always been used during times when a nation was gripped with lack of durable supply . Today the world is entering yet again such a period of time .

I terms of worldwide supply demand which this chart reflects , http://a.citywirecontent.co.uk/images/2012/03/28/578269-System__Resources__Image-640999.gif , if you look at the periods of stagnate growth on the chart during those periods volatility and fiat debt expansion was because demand was out pacing supply . The massive volatility in the lead up to WW2 was because by the time free market understanding of the demand on durable supply ( what supply is needs to sustain human life ) was out pacing the production of durable supply it was to late to avert the reality of this lack of supply . Every time there was a period where we entered into a demand out pacing supply societies somewhere in the world were in chaos and fighting , genocide and totalitarian governments ruled .
We are in one of those periods and we are fast coming to a point where fiat debt cannot continue without some kind of innovation that can show the free market a way to sustain population growth like happened in the past periods like the Industrial BOOM of the late 1930s ,40s, and 50s , and the tech combined with industrial BOOM of the late 1970s , 80s , and 90s .
Its funny that even with this clear understanding with futures traded markets being traded in high frequency real time , not like it was back in the days of slow information communication , we still see a delay in reaction to demand out pacing supply , but that can be attributed to the Political interaction we see like Divide politics and other interventions into the economic , and social aspects of society .
Agenda 21 is to oppress us all into zero growth mode . They don’t think we can be educated enough to self regulate .

  • Yes destroying the rain forest will lead to all the problems!!! Jack is right! This area is very densely populated with crime soaring to all time levels, many different cultures here and at one time one of the most beautiful cities in the Americas with outstanding museums, zoos and aquariums! Beaches and fab homes and architecture.
Destruction of rainforest, over population especially in poverty, lack of inner structure, and mafia running the show has been the downfall of the entire planet. We had it all and now look! Greed has destroyed everything instead of kicking out the mafia who has endless money to pay off everyone you continue to destroy your planet! Sad but true I suppose desalinization will be the answer as the planet heats up we continue to use fossil fuel and once you start cutting down a forest all the tress release their co2 causing more warming and a vicious cycle of destruction!

  • Two days on is enough time to fill your large water tank to last the rest of the week, in the same way a UPS with large capacity batteries will supply electricity during power cuts. Won’t work once people understand this.
Other people will store water and sell it as with petrol during strikes and shortages. Only the poor and people that do not think ahead will lose out. there will be riots, and cholera epidemic!

  • And it’s in the news here. Why?
