It seemed like a typical congressional meeting for the Republic of Texas. Senators and the president gathered in the center of a Bryan, Texas, meeting hall, surrounded by public onlookers, to debate issues of the national currency, develop international relations and celebrate the birthday of one of their oldest members.

But this wasn’t 1836, and this would be no ordinary legislative conference. Minutes into the meeting a man among the onlookers stood and moved to open the hall door, letting in an armed and armored force of the Bryan Police Department, the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office, the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office, Agents of the Texas District Attorney, the Texas Rangers and the FBI.

In the end, at least 20 officers corralled, searched and fingerprinted all 60 meeting attendees, before seizing all cellphones and recording equipment in a Valentine’s Day 2015 raid on the Texas separatist group.

The raid was conducted in connection with an allegation that a member of the group, claiming to be “chief justice of the international Common Law Court for the Republic of Texas,” had issued phony writs of “quo warranto” and “mandamus” and a phony “subpoena,” purporting to order both an attorney and a Texas state court judge to appear at “hearings” apparently to be conducted by the group at Bryan, Texas.

Does anyone know if this allegation was true or not?   This feels like Russia or some other historical dictatorship.  Granted, we are an oxymoron of a country too.  We preach freedom of speech, freedom in general and democracy but if a group of like minded individuals want to split away from and form their own they get raided bypolice or their entire country is bombed to oblivion (see US civil war). Freedom is a tricky thing for some.  Who am I kidding, the very word is an oxymoron.

Just to make things abit more interesting, China recently said they would support Texans in their bid to break away from the US.  I wonder if thats what the feds were looking for?  Connections to China?
