Georgia Rep. Tom Kirby says scientists are splicing human DNA with animal DNA at Cornell University with embryos of jellyfish, combined with human genetic material.

“Everybody always asks,” says Rep. Tom Kirby, repeating the question: “Is it even possible to mix non-human with human embryos? Yes it is.” Kriby believes we should not tamper with mythological creatures if they exists, however does not believe we should be creating these crossbreeds in lab within the state of Georgia.

WMAZ asked Tom Kirby his thoughts:

Your bill would prevent the creation of Mermaids, “Y’know the mermaids in the ocean, that’s been around for a long time,” Kirby said. “I don’t think we should create them. But if they exist, that’s fine.”

Your against Centaurs? “Y’know I really don’t like centaurs,” Kirby said of the half-man, half-horse mythological character. “They really have bad attitudes most of the time and we’ve got enough people with bad attitudes as it is.”

If human beings had wings we could get around better and save money on gas, “I think man has been trying to fly forever,” Kirby said. He approves of bird-men, he says, “if it’s a natural genetic mutation.” He acknowledges such a mutation could help solve Georgia’s transportation issues.

Werewolves: “We don’t want to laboratory create the werewolf,” Kirby said. But “naturally occurring in the environment, absolutely.” Kirby says it’s time to draw a legislative line. His bill would make make it illegal “to create a human animal hybrid.”

Kirby emphasizes he is not trying to stop research that uses animal genetic material to cure human diseases. His bill specifically exempts such research from his proposed ban.
