HB1355 – An Act to Provide Local Control over Fluoride The House Committee on Public Health, Welfare, and Labor passed HB1355 out of committee as DO PASS on 2/17/2015 at 12:50pm. HB1355 is scheduled to be voted on the House floor on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 1:30pm. Secure Arkansas can support HB1355 in the interim, although we would have liked to have seen the Fluoridation Mandate in Arkansas (ACT197) completely repealed. There seems to be some confusion on what HB1355 is really saying. The definition of the word “adjust” should be clarified in the bill and be defined to allow the water operator either to add fluoride or not to add fluoride to the public water supply. In addition, we at Secure Arkansas believe that a water additive accountability bill such as SB255 (of 2013) is just as important as repealing the fluoridation mandate in Arkansas. It would hold the manufacturer accountable for the contaminants in the product and assure us that the product is safe and effective for everyone. Our water districts and all consumers deserve to have accountability and full disclosure for the chemicals which we drink and in which we bathe everyday. Keep contacting your Representatives and Senators encouraging them to file and pass a water additive accountability Act which would become a law in Arkansas.
