Representative Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wisc, has reintroduced a bill that would eliminate the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive (ATF) by forcing consolidation of the agencies necessary functions into the FBI and the FDA.
“The ATF is a scandal-ridden, largely duplicative agency that lacks a clear mission. Its ‘Framework’ is an affront to the Second Amendment and yet another reason why Congress should pass the ATF Elimination Act,” Sensenbrenner said in a statement to The Hill.
The legislation would require the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration to “jointly develop and submit a plan for winding up the affairs of ATF that, without compromising core functions, eliminates and reduces duplicative, unnecessary functions or waste”. This move in-itself would abolish the ATF entirely.
