By Shepard Ambellas

WEST CHARLTON, New York (INTELLIHUB) — A small local farm that raises cows, sheep, pigs, and chickens has been under fire by local authorities lately after a hash winter has stricken the region, freezing water supplies to both residents and animals alike.

The farm’s owner Joshua Rockwood was recently charged with “cruelty to animals” for not “providing them with proper sustenance” after a local police officer dropped by West Wind Acres on Feb. 25 to check if Rockwood’s “work dogs” were licensed. While the officer was present he observed that the animals drinking water was indeed frozen, like other water sources in the area, and issued Rockwood a “ticket”.

A few days later, on Feb. 27, a “wellness check” was conducted by a local veterinarian at Rockwood’s request which documented that all of the animals were in good health and in fact were not dehydrated, contradicting the officers citation.

But once again, on Mar. 3, police showed up to the farm, this time en masse, with a search warrant issued for both the house and the farm, citing Rockwood with more charges.

A few weeks later on Mar. 15 police showed up again, this time seizing Rockwood’s horses before any kind of trial even took place as authorities were seemingly in disdain for the farmer’s practice which is a little more unconventional than most but gets the job done.

If you wish to help Joshua Rockwood fight authoritative tyranny and governmental “overreach” a publication by the name of Fussy Little Blog recommends:

  • Reaching “out to Josh and West Wind Acres over social media just to voice your support. This is an incredibly difficult time for him and his family, and it’s reassuring to know that people are behind him.”
  • Buying his meat. “Amazingly, though all of this, the farm is still making deliveries to Delmar, Latham, Rensselaer, Troy, Clifton Park, Schenectady, Malta, etc. Of course, you could also buy some while at the farm.”
  • Visiting the farm. “Just call ahead to make sure there isn’t another police action on the farm.”
  • Show up to his hearing “at the Glenville Town Hall March 24 at 5:30 pm.”

A fund has been set up for Rockwood’s legal defense via GoFundMe.
