It reminds me of a story my late grandfather told me. In 1917, he was drafted into the US Army and stationed in San Antoinio. At one point, his unit was assigned a duty to go out into the countryside and stop at each farm and ask the farmer how much livestiock, etc. etc. he had in case Uncle needed it. In all cases my grandfather said the farmers told him it is none of your business. He was instructed to say that he was operating under military jurisdiction and was armed (1903 Springfield rifle) and carrying out his assigned duties.
The farmers told him they had guns too and get the BLEEP out of there.
