This past year has been quite controversial for police in America, and I suspect that 2015 won’t be any different. Their corruption and brutality seems to grow a little every year, while personal video cameras continue to become more ubiquitous. For them, it’s a pretty simple recipe for a PR disaster.
So after so many police brutality videos caught the public’s attention last year, you’d think they would start to reform the nature of their profession. Perhaps they could change how their officers are trained, and adjust their tactics in the field. Or maybe they could make an effort towards tackling corruption, and breaking down the thin blue line that separates them from the public they’re supposed to be protecting. Or if they’d like to instantly regain the respect of the public, they could actually punish cops who rape, murder, and steal, instead of giving them desk duty and paid vacations.
Oh hell, who am I kidding? That all sounds way too hard. Instead of reforming the police, it would be so much easier to just reform their image.
Friday morning Capital New York published a blockbuster story about how the New York Police Department has apparently been doing its own damage control on Wikipedia.
The reporters there found that “Computers operating on the New York Police Department’s computer network at its 1 Police Plaza headquarters have been used to alter Wikipedia pages containing details of alleged police brutality.”
Entries found to have been edited by IP addresses associated with the NYPD include pages related to the shooting deaths of Eric Garner, Sean Bell, and Amadou Diallo. In all, Capital New York identified 85 separate NYPD addresses that have edited Wikipedia, which indicates that this may very well have been a coordinated operation and not simply the work of a rogue officer.
Most of their handiwork seems to pertain to the Eric Garner case. Statements such as “Garner raised both his arms in the air” were changed to “Garner flailed his arms about as he spoke.” And “Use of the chokehold has been prohibited” was altered to say “Use of the chokehold is legal, but has been prohibited.”
The most atrocious edit, in my mind at least, was when they edited one of the instances of “chokehold” to read “respiratory distress.” What a polite way to describe strangulation.
So keep up the good work NYPD. Surely the people of New York City can sleep easy at night, knowing that their men in blue will leave no stone unturned in their effort to cover their own asses.

The number ONE reason I will NOT contribute to Wiki in any way, is the ease in which some organizations can just blatantly change their entries, and are allowed to override known events. Of course, Wiki will stop this if it is to their personal political benefit (a touch of Snopes, me thinks), but if it is against ‘public outcry’ (such as police brutality), then they will actually investigate and stop it. Ultimately, the absolute definition of ‘revisionist history’, ever.
A great example of this, who would jump to defend Wiki blindly, is the simple topic of government types. You have a few basic types, then you have ‘economy types’ that have become confused in the public mind as a ‘government type’ which they are not.
Government types include:
Monarchies
Oligarchies (often as another form, such as Socialist societies)
Socialism
Fascism
Communism
Republics
Democracies
Dictatorships
If you Wiki each one, most are relatively clear and explain themselves well. That is until you get to comparing a few that are highly in the ‘limelight’ as of late.
If you read ‘Democracies’ and then read ‘Republics’, you find that Wiki has (what appears to be intentional) blended and confused the two so thoroughly that there is, in fact, no difference to their definition, other than some historical references that they cannot bring forward to modern examples. This was not always the case. 50-years ago, any school child could tell you that we have a Republic in America, and that Democracies are where 51-percent tell the 49-percent what to do. IN FACT, a pure Democratic government would have no leaders, and you would go to the polls and vote on EVERY SINGLE LAW, with the majority vote carrying the resulting approval-rejection. THAT, my friends, is a TRUE DEMOCRACY. A Republic is where you vote for ‘worthy representation’, and you trust that the representative will generally and as a whole, support legislation that you want to be implemented (though he may have to compromise, and at times, will not do as you desire – he is, in the end, his own ‘man’).
Republics are ‘representative government’, where democracies are ‘mob rule by the majority’. That’s about as elementary of description that can be given to a layperson. Nowhere on Wiki will you find this simple truth.
Now, enter into a far foggier subject, Socialism versus Communism versus a Republic. Suddenly, Wiki can tell you EVERYTHING about how Communism works, a lot of vagery about how Republics are generally misunderstood dinosaurs of ages past, and how Socialism is. It doesn’t really say what it is, just that it is, and that in fact, it is often misunderstood for being Fascism.
Ok, the advantage of being old in America now, is that I do remember MUCH CLEARER definitions of what Socialism, Fascism, Communism and Republics really were. Let’s clear the air on what they are, then if you are brave enough, wander off into the Wikipedia where Socialists try to tell you how it isn’t what it is.
We’ve talked about Republics (generally), now see Socialism for what it is. Ideally, Socialism is where each individual is given limited (sometimes open and general) ownership of their land or area, with an intrinsic agreement with government that they will grow, make, produce for the local area (their ‘village’) and though they own the produce and can ‘sell’ it to the government, there are expectations and often laws that require them to give government first chance at buying it for ‘redistribution’ purposes. Taxation is high, as is often the case, because the government is in mutual agreement to provide for the citizens health and welfare. This ‘contract’ is meant to remove ‘distractions and burdens’ from the citizens, so they can ‘produce better’. The closest example of true ‘Socialism’ as explained, on earth, can be found in nations like Canada, yet no nation that has waved the flag of ‘Socialism’ has ever sustained it long. It has always mutated into either Democracy or Communism. Why? Because it is a process government of transition, nothing more. It is not the utopia it is promised to be, it is a road to arrive at a destination by.
Lately, media has enjoyed confusing everyone with screams of ‘Fascist’ or ‘Fascist Regime’, yet no one seems to ever have ONCE asked, ‘ok, you’re yelling it, what is it?’ Fascism is Socialism but where all are allowed to own what they want (home, farm, car, business), Fascism is Socialism where the government has either entered directly into company or business ownership, nation-wide, for the purposes of controlling business efforts. The usual path from Socialism to Communism passes through Fascism for a short spell. Fascism is the interim between Socialism and Communism, because it requires the government take over businesses first, as this normally wields total economic control and thus, allows the use of pain on the commoner so that they can ‘help’ them too.
Communism, the last bastion of government, is where all is owned by the government. Your home, your car, your business – they aren’t yours. Think of it as living with mom and dad, with much more brutal punishments for misbehavior or speaking out. You get room, board, an allowance and chores. Keep quiet, do as your told, and don’t make a scene. This, in a nutshell, is Communism – and, as always, there are a hundred variants from ‘relatively open’ to ‘harsh brutality’ that it has taken. As a result of this ‘whole family’ concept, related produce and work results often leave a lot to be desired. Quality of work is often pitiful, production is minimal, and rapid actions are highly rare. Truly, as is often the case, the old saying ‘too many chefs spoil the stew’ is no better applied than to Communism.
Now, explaining all this, except for the typing, was relatively easy. I explained it the way that it was taught in American schools in the 60′s and 70′s. Hitler was a self-avowed SOCIALIST (Nazi is a shorthand for ‘National Socialist Labor Party, the party that he led politically). Mussolini, Italy’s dictator at the same time, was a FASCIST. While Hitler led his nation, and with great threats, controlled his ‘corporate businesses’ during WWII, it was not always like that, nor did he claim ‘ownership’ (as Mussolini did), though businesses did do Hitler’s business in WWII.
Compare to America in the modern era. Washington D.C., nor Obama, nor any government entity OWNS corporations, but they do their bidding. We are overburdened with Socialist ideals and entitlements as we choke on debt that would have made Germany’s predecessor, the Wiemar Republic actually have hope (read that story and REALLY fear what comes next). We still own property. We still can own businesses.
PER THE DEFINITION, we are LIVING In a SOCIALIST society already. Don’t believe the media, this is NOT Fascist in any way, it is SOCIALIST, just like Hitler’s Germany. BUT, remember what I said, no nation has ever endured true socialism for long, without transitioning to either Democracy or Communism (via Fascism).
This is why Wiki can’t be trusted. It can’t tell the truth, it won’t tell the truth, and it won’t lock down simple definable concepts like forms of government without trying to ‘spin’ the fact that we are, in fact, dealing with hostile SOCIALISM trying to finally destroy our Republic.
Wiki, I guess you’ll have to beg Soros for that operational funds. You aren’t going to beg $3 out of me anytime soon. You’re too much a Goering mouthpiece for my taste.
