Robinson as a child. ‘There is something so beautiful about a black kid, especially in America, trying to make it against all odds and fucking up so bad, but then actively trying to better his situation.’ Photograph: Robinson Madison — More than 1,000 people gathered at a high school Saturday to mourn the death of a black teenager who was shot and killed last weekend by a white police officer.
As family and friends of Tony Terrell Robinson, 19, packed Madison East’s field house for a visitation, a slide show of photographs of the teenager, set to music, played. Some people wore T-shirts with photographs of Robinson. Others wore shirts that read “Black Lives Matter” and “Justice 4 Tony Robinson.” Well before the funeral began, the field house was filled to capacity and additional mourners were directed to an overflow room.
Robinson, a biracial teen whose mother is white and father is black, died March 6 after what Madison police have said was a struggle in which he assaulted the officer responding to a welfare check at an east side home. An autopsy released Friday showed he was shot in the head, torso and right arm. morehere
