WASHINGTON D.C. (INTELLIHUB) — House Speaker John Boehner has called for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to hand over her computer server to a third-party for further investigation despite the fact that Clinton said the “server will remain private.”
This all comes after Clinton was found to have been using a private email account rather than a government email account to send and receive sensitive electronic communications which is against the rules.
Not to mention Hillary is under fire after the Clinton Foundation was found to have accepted foreign money, to the tune of $2 million, from the Chinese and the problem is likely not going away anytime soon.
Additionally the House Committee on Benghazi has given Clinton just “two weeks”, until Mar. 27, to produce emails regarding “Libya” and the “terror attacks” which took place in 2012 after Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) subpoenaed Clinton last Wednesday.
The two-week allotment is a courteous extension by Gowdy as the original deadline for Clinton to turn over the private server was set for last Friday. Gowdy’s request also included ten State Department staffers.
Jamal Ware, a committee spokesperson, said, “Chairman Gowdy granted a reasonable extension because for him this is not about politics, it is about getting all relevant documents for the Committee.”
However all of this has tarnished Clinton’s public appeal as some now wonder if she is even worthy of becoming the first female president. In fact a poll released on Mar. 16 shows that 51% think the email issue is a dire problem despite the fact that she has already turned over approximately “30,000 of the 60,000″ emails in question, as reported by CNN.
During a news conference which took place on Mar. 10 Hillary Clinton stated, “There are four things I want the public to know. First, when I got to work as secretary of state, I opted for convenience to use my personal e-mail account, which was allowed by the State Department, because I thought it would be easier to carry just one device for my work and for my personal e-mails instead of two. Looking back, it would’ve been better if I’d simply used a second e-mail account and carried a second phone, but at the time, this didn’t seem like an issue.”
But this statement left some with more questions than answers. Glenn Kessler writing for the Washington Post questioned Hillary’s statement writing, “It would have been up to the staff to keep track of the devices, not Clinton.”
Furthermore the State Department Foreign Affairs rulebook states that “sensitive” information should never sent or received through personal email accounts and that it’s “the Department’s general policy that normal day-to-day operations be conducted on an authorized AIS [Automated Information System], which has the proper level of security control to provide nonrepudiation, authentication and encryption, to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the resident information.”
Now some question if the underlying issue is really the fact that the Sate Department is doing nothing to preserve such electronic communications whether government or private. While back in the day several physical carbon records were kept of hand typed, written, memos, during today’s day and age apparently record keeping has inexcusably slipped through the cracks altogether for nearly the past 20 years.
But again this could all be a distraction to thwart the general public’s perception of the issue as many in the government had to have known Hillary was using her private email account while she was Secretary of State, further suggesting some level of corruption.
Now some, like myself, wonder if Clinton’s server will just simply turn up missing, providing no answers at all.
