The Bible is one huge allegory. Hidden meanings abound, for those with eyes to see. To take this work literally is to miss the point entirely.
For example, when Jesus tells us to cast our nets to the right, he means to access the right hemisphere through meditation. (Jesus studied Buddhism) Another example is that there was not a man who lived inside a whale for three days. Come on now.
