Here are 10 Disturbing Things You Didn’t Know About Disney. It’s not as family oriented as you think.
An 18 year old girl named Debbie Stone took on a job at Disneyland in California in the summer of 1974. She was the hostess of America Sings, a new ride that featured 6 rotating stages which allowed guests to view without leaving their seats. 9 days after the ride opened, visitors believed they were hearing screams that were part of the performance. Debbie’s body was crushed between a rotating wall and a stationary one. To this day, Debbie remains the only victim of that theme park.
River Country was Disney’s first ever water park and right beside it was Discovery Island, a zoologicalpark. Both parks were eventually abandoned in 2001 and 1999 respectively. Although they were closed to the public, some brave people had decided to go into them unattended. The reason why these parks were closed was because a brain eating amoeba was found in River Country’s surrounding lake. It has a case fatality of 95%.
Walt Disney has a very good relationship with J. Edgar Hoover, the founder of FBI. One of his tasks was to report on the activities of celebrities in Hollywood, including actors, directors, writer and the such. Hoover was so impressed with Disney’s contributions that he allowed him to film his movies in the FBI headquarters. Oh, how nice of him. In 2007, a woman was caught releasing a substance while riding Pirates of the Caribbean. She argued that it was just baby powder. Many people suspected that it was human remains. It’s not the first timepeople spread ashes in the park. Many of them have done it in the Haunted House. The custodial staff had to use sophisticated HEPA Vacuums to target the small matter that was now drifting through the air. Don’t drink the water from the fountain.
On August 6, 1970, a group called Youth International Party invaded Disneyland in California and took over several sections of the popular amusement park. The 200+ Yippies that occupied Disneyland that day were part of a leaderless but widespread countercultural organization that staged free speech and anti-war protests throughout the country.
Many of the old rides at Disneyland are “dark rides” – that is, they’re hosted indoors and are sparsely lit and are meant to create “scenes” that you ride past. One dark ride, “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride,” ended with Mr. Toad from “The Wind in the Willows” driving into an oncoming train and literally arriving the participants in hell. Like, ACTUAL Hell.
