By Lexi Morgan

CHICOPEE, Ma. (INTELLIHUB) — A woman by the name of Maylene Maldonado, 24, was violently choked before being taken down to her knees in pain by Chicopee Police Sgt. Daniel Major in the booking room on Feb. 27, 2013 after being brought in for slapping a police officer while under the influence of alcohol and PCP.

However the Deputy Chief of the police department at the time didn’t feel right about the actions of Sgt. Major and took the actual video footage of the incident down to the mayor’s office citing that Sgt. Major’s actions were “excessive and possibly criminal in nature”.

In the video you can visibly see Maldonado in pain as she screams, “That’s all I want is the piercing off my lip because it’s hurting!” At the time Maldonado was being held by Sgt. Major and two other officers at the booking counter.

Seconds later Maldonado asks aloud: “Why you hurting my hand?”, while the officers appear to apply pressure.

But what happens next is completely uncalled for.

As seen in the video, Sgt. Major then aggressively grabs Maldonado by her neck forcefully choking her until she buckles to her knees in pain.

“Shut up!”, one of the other officers told the woman who was clearly in pain.

“No, no, no!”, she cries as she goes down with her hands already cuffed behind her back.

Shockingly in contradiction to all evidence an Internal Affairs review conducted after the incident said that the cops actually acted “admirably”.

Sgt. Major and others have since resigned from the force as a result of the lawsuit.
