Blame Sugar is for the Obesity Epidemic

Sugar and carbohydrates are the real culprits in the obesity epidemic – and the public has been falsely told that couch potato lifestyles are to blame, a new report has claimed.

Writing in the British Journal Of Sports Medicine, they said poor diet now generates more disease than physical inactivity, alcohol and smoking combined.

The editorial, by a group of cardiologists and sports experts, says that while obesity has rocketed in the past 30 years there has been little change in physical activity levels.

“This places the blame for our expanding waistlines directly on the type and amount of calories consumed,” they write.

The authors, who include Prof Aseem Malhotra, a cardiologist and adviser to the campaign group Action on Sugar, said the public had been sold a “false perception” that exercise was more important than eating healthily, when the opposite was true.

Prof Malhotra said US data which tracked obesity and activity levels found little change in activity levels over two decades, while obesity levels soared.

In Britain, 25 per cent of adults are now obese, compared with less than 3 per cent in the 1970s.

Activity levels have not been tracked consistently over the same period, but data from the 1990s and 2000s suggests exercise levels could even be increasing.

  • Hate to break it to the social engineering SOCIALISTS, but sugar is actually used in VERY FEW FOODS in our modern world. Let’s back up and look at the REAL CULPRIT that the spin doctors are too uneducated to see:

    People have gotten MUCH FATTER since the late 1970′s because we have been taken OFF of sugar, and mostly-unaware, been placed on a concentrated diet of HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP instead. Not sugar, not natural, not even close. All the sugar in the WORLD cannot and will-not cause cirrhosis of the liver (hardening). HFCS works just like alcohol, however, to induce cirrhosis within a few years of a steady diet of it. As the liver hardens, it stops working efficiently. As it reduces efficiency, your body becomes less efficient at digesting sugars and starches. In effect, you ‘pile on the pounds’ to process them later, instead of digesting them and either using, or passing them out of your system.

    The next time you hear a SPIN DOCTOR tell you that it’s the high-sugar diet that is causing obesity, ask them to show you a food label. What you will find, is that the SUGAR is most-likely not sugar at all (not in your sodas, your candies, your various high-density-sweet-treats or even your various sweeteners like pancake syrup), but HFCS.

    The best thing for your body would be to TOTALLY REPLACE those HFCS sweeteners with old-fashioned cane sugar. The number-one-thing they will never do, is return to it. Why? Because it’s a lot more profitable to treat a sick person, than to overlook a healthy one.
