Bill Maher is at it again.
The comedian and host of hit HBO talk show “Real Time With Bill Maher” recently found himself at the center of another anti-Muslim controversy. This time, he compares former One Direction band member Zayn Malik to the since-convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
In the clip from March 30 below, Maher jokes “I think after everything we’ve been through, I at least deserve the common respect of being told face to face: Just tell me two things, Zayn. Which one in the band were you? And where were you during the Boston Marathon?” as side-by-side photos of Malik and Tsarnaev appear on screen.
Malik’s fans quickly expressed their outrage via the #Respect4Zayn hashtag and also set up an online petition demanding an apology from Maher.
Maher’s comments are only the latest to be perceived as Islamophobic. The militantly atheist comic has enraged many viewers of his show with almost weekly polemics against organized religion, mainly directed against Islam. Perhaps his latest blunder may prove a step too far.
