A memorial tree for Michael Brown was found cut in half and a stone memorial was missing less than 24 hours after being dedicated to the teen whose death sparked a national outcry over race relations and police procedure.

The tree was dedicated by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association on Saturday in Ferguson, Missouri, but was found vandalized on Sunday morning.

While police said they are investigating the vandalism, they do not yet have any suspects.

Last August, the 18-year-old Brown was shot and killed by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson after what investigators say an altercation ensued. The event sparked unrest in the community and protests across the nation.

Months after the shooting and public pressure, St. Louis County and the Justice Department determined there was not enough evidence to pursue charges against Wilson.
