Kevin Kane, director of Student Services for the Radnor Township School District has posted the following letter on the Radnor Township School District website regarding cases of pertussis (whooping cough) in the high school:
Dear Radnor Township School District Community,
Since our last communication regarding pertussis at Radnor High School on April 6, district officials have been notified of four more cases of pertussis at RHS as of April 9, 2015. There have now been a total of seven confirmed cases of pertussis at RHS since March 20 in addition to one confirmed case at Radnor Middle School in February.
The district has been working closely with a representative from the Pennsylvania Department of Health to monitor and respond to this issue. Currently, of the seven students at RHS with confirmed cases, we can confirm six were vaccinated. Out of the entire RHS student body, seven students are currently exempt from vaccinations for medical or religious reasons. Radnor High School’s nurse has called the parents of all of these students in order to discuss the importance of vaccination.
Information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccines and their effectiveness and how pertussis spreads can be found here.
