(Before It's News)

This is quite an honor: Truthdig has been nominated for the 2015 Webby Awards as a contender in the running for Best Political Blog/Website.

Click here to go to the Webby category page. Online voting for the People’s Voice Award, which is decided by popular vote, is up and running as of Tuesday morning, and the virtual booths close on April 23.

Needless to say, we’re in some really good company, as FactCheck.org, On the Fence, Rolling Stone’s “America’s Gun Violence Epidemic” site and Politico are also up for this prize. This year’s honorees in the same category are Emily’s List, The Labour Party, The New Yorker’s Close Read blog, Real Time with Bill Maher, The Uncovery and Capitol Alert.

“The Webbys are the Oscars of the Internet, and we are thrilled by the possibility of winning this industry standard award from our peers for the sixth time,” Truthdig Editor in Chief Robert Scheer said on Tuesday, following the awards organization’s announcement.

Comic Hannibal Buress is slated to host the 18th annual Webby ceremony, the 18th annual which will be held on May 19 in New York City. Readers may recall that Buress was the performer who, by cracking wise on the subject during a standup routine last October in Philadelphia, helped spark the firestorm of media interest around comedy legend Bill Cosby’s alleged pattern of sexual assault.

Other nominees from the Internet media milieu include The Guardian, VICE News, Quartz and The New York Times in the News category; Vanity Fair’s VF Daily and the NYT’s “The Upshot” in the Blog-Cultural lineup; and WIRED.com, The New Yorker, VF.com and Vice in the Magazine group. Mashable’s Webby story highlights this year’s picks from the entertainment, gaming, streaming media and social media arenas as well.

We are most pleased to share the news with our readers, who always represent our first priority and our main motivation for doing what we do.

No matter the results, one thing’s for sure—Bob Scheer’s five-word speech from the 2010 Webby ceremony (which was, it should be noted, held at Cipriani Wall Street) is still a tough act to follow (via YouTube):
