Comp-Tac Victory Gear has just launched a new retention holster, the Flatline Thumb Break. The Flatline mixes old with new using molded Kydex for the holster body and a riveted leather strap to provide level two retention.

The Flatline Thumb Break isn’t the first of its kind but Kydex holsters that provide this type of retention are pretty uncommon. On top of that the Flatline Thumb Break is modular and can be rigged for inside- or outside-the-waisband wear. The loops are adjustable for cant and can be tweaked to fit the individual user.

Being a new product the Flatline Thumb Break is currently only offered for more common pistols, right now select Glock, M&P and Heckler & Koch models and full-size 1911s. Hopefully more models will be available soon, especially if the Flatline takes off. The holster is available in right- and left-handed models with standard or offset belt loops for 1.5- and 1.75-inch belts.

The uses an adjustable clamshell design that completely encases the pistol, molded around it on both side. The holster uses a detent system to for retention in addition to the thumb strap, which has a law-enforcement grade snap. Holster retention is also adjustable by tightening or loosening the Kydex halves.

The rigid design of the Flatline means that the holster retains its shape even with the gun drawn, which provides an extra layer of security when holstering a handgun — there’s less likelihood of something pressing on the trigger while holstering.

Like a lot of higher-end gunleather the new Flatline Thumb Break isn’t cheap at $94, but a good holster is critical for good carry practices, whether it’s for self-defense, range use or the job.
