Funeral director, driver fired for leaving deceased vet in hearse at Dunkin’ Donuts (VIDEO)
When Rob Carpenter pulled into a Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot in Lecanto, Florida, he was left speechless at what he witnessed.
A hearse sat parked in a space outside, but inside the vehicle was a coffin, draped with an American flag. The body of 84-year-old Lt. Col. Jesse Coleman was left unattended in the parking lot while the hearse driver and the funeral director were inside the donut shop apparently taking a coffee break.
Carpenter snapped photos of the unbelievable sight and posted them to social media. Not surprisingly, it took very little time for the photos to go viral.
But Carpenter said he was even more surprised at the driver’s seemingly complete lack of remorse or concern when he was confronted about the act, which could be described as nothing less than complete disrespect.
Veterans Funeral Care President Jim Rudolph said the two men, who were both fired, showed a “terrible lack of judgment” and a “total lack of respect.”
Rudolph said when a car leaves the funeral home with the flag-draped casket, it’s on a stage and all those tending to the casket are in ceremony mode. He said during a military transport, as a matter of respect, no stops are ever made.
“That’s absolutely terrible,” he added.
