A small plane crash on a Georgia interstate in Dekalb County killed at least four people on board and closed I-285 in both directions on Friday.

Fox News 5, is confirming that on a busy Friday morning, the small plane crashed on the Georgia Interstate, killing four people. At this time, the crash has shut down I-285 in both directions at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, and there are massive traffic jams.

SKYFOX Traffic’s Katie Beasley says this is causing major traffic delays and motorists are urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes. According to FOX 5’s Chris Shaw, Doravilla Mayor Donna Pittman says I-285 will be shut down ‘indefinitely.’”

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the small plane that crashed on a Georgia interstate is described as a Piper PA-32. Additionally, the FAA says the plane crashed about a mile from DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) after departing from Runway 3Right.

“Preliminary information is that four persons were on board.
“A Piper PA-32 aircraft crashed on I-285 after departing from Runway 3Right DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. We have not confirmed the number of persons on board yet. We will release the aircraft registration/N-number/tail number after local authorities release the names and conditions of all persons on board. The Please call DeKalb County public safety agencies for information about the scene.
“The FAA is en route to the scene. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is in charge of the investigation and will determine probable cause. We will get back to you as soon as we have more information.”

Motorists driving on I-285 at the time of the small plane crash were stunned at what they saw. They told Fox News 5 they heard a loud boom and saw a “fireball” appear and said there was nothing left at the crash site.
