How much is your education worth? Will a bachelor’s degree help you get more money than someone with a college degree? I often find that employers never care about the degree you earn…They pay based on how their heart tells them to….Which makes me understand: why these ten people made it big without a college degree?

Newell is the co-founder of the ultra-popular video game development and digital distribution company, Valve Corporation. Valve Corporation is responsible for the development of some of the most popular video games of all time, such as Half-Life. He was a student at Harvard University, but clamed that he was not learning anything. He instead hung out with his brother at Microsoft and learned everything about developing software from the latter. Eventually he was hired at Microsoft and spent 13 years there. He left in 1996 to found Valve Corporation. Now he is worth $1.26 billion.

Jack Dorsey is most remembered through his creation – the second largest social network in the world – Twitter. He took an interest in writing codes while he was still a child, especially in the field of dispatch logistics. His dispatch software is still be used by many taxi companies around the world. Upon completion of high school, Dorsey enrolled in Missouri University of Science & Technology, but transferred to New York University immediately. He dropped out of college to work on his interests – a social networking website (Twitter). Now he is worth $2.5 billion.

Who still remembers Napster? We probably all used it to download music for free until it was shut down. The creator is Sean Parker and he is also notable for becoming the first president of Facebook. As a child, he was always interested in programming and hacking. At the age of 16, the FBI managed to find him and sentence him to community service after he hacked into a Fortune 500 company. Even while in high school, he was being recruited by a number of companies and making $80,000. This convinced his parents to let him skip college and continue on his business ventures. His current net worth is $2.7 billion.

Steve Spielberg is one of the most accomplished filmmakers of all time. Some of his best works: Jaws, Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park and E.T. Spielberg was interested in making movies ever since he was a child. In his teenage years, he would make a number of amateur films with his friends. At the age of 16, Steven made his first independent movie with a small amount of money given to him by his father. The title of the movie was Firelight and it was shown at a local cinema one evening. Upon graduation from high school, he applied to film school, but was rejected due to his low grade average. So he enrolled in California State University. While enrolled there, he was offered a 7 year contract with Universal Studios to be a professional film director. He dropped out and is now worth a net worth of $3.6 billion.

Ralph Lauren is one of the most high-end fashion designers and the head of the Ralph Lauren Corporation. At a young age, he was very ambitious and had a goal of becoming a millionaire. He started earning money in high school when he was selling ties to other students in his school. After graduating secondary school, he continued his studies at Baruch College, where he was studying business. However, he dropped out only two years later because he wanted to join the army, where he also spent two years. After working at a tie company also for two years, he began designing neckties from rags and eventually founded Polo with a budget of $50,000. He is now worth $7.1 billion.

My first desktop computer was ordered from Dell….that was before they were available in Canada at third party shops like Best Buy. I had to order the computer online and import it from USA. As a child, Michael Dell was interested in making it big in the big world. When he was a teenager, he started to save up money from working part-time jobs and investing in precious metals and stocks. As soon as he purchased his first computer at the age of 15 he became interested in the machine. 4 years later he managed to establish the company that we now call Dell with a small budget of $1,000. Now he is worth $18.7 billion and is currently the 50th richest man in the world.
