Alert States:  CA, OR, WA, NV, AZ, NM, UT, DC, DE, VA

Alert Level:  RED

Detected:  6/27/2015

A red alert is in progress across Washington D.C. and the Western United States.  It is interesting to note that just after gay rights law went into effect that D.C. has been targeted.  Is this  a coincidence or not … But Washington D.C. is going to feel the wrath of severe weather today, including floods, damaging winds, and even tornadoes.

A NWF Tornado Watch is in effect for that area, down through VA and into DE as well.

The other one is in the Western USA.  This red alert has been around for days and Oregon’s populated zones hit over 105F+ yesterday and many thunderstorms are expected in that area on Sunday.  Also storms are expected in California and Arizona, with Arizona seeing severe thunderstorms and a dust storm.

Yellow – Slight change is expected, but overall the weather pattern is not being affected.

Orange – Change is expected and the reading indicates between then and and a few days it will happen. This is considered a moderate reading, which if a short spike can be a nearby event such as severe weather, unexpected lightning, or a tornado.

Red – Significant change is expected. Anything over M7 is rare and special attention must be directed when readings go seven and higher. Severe storms are associated with this reading and so are Earthquakes, which if a short spike can be a nearby event and a long duration and slow build being a large scale change. Pink – Associated with tornado outbreaks and/or major severe weather events that cause widespread damage. This also can be strong hurricanes and blizzards.

White – Only seen a few times, one of the times was Hurricane Sandy, many days before she formed.  This is the highest of the alerts, considered off the charts.
