An attempted robbery in San Antonio this week didn’t quite work out as planned when one of the intended victims fought back against his assailants and used the suspect’s own gun to shoot him.

Two men were leaving a local bar when they were approached by two more men who were armed with guns. The suspects, who were later identified as Jonathan Medrano and Alexander Aguilar, demanded money from the two men and proceeded to pistol whip them.

However, during the altercation, one of the victims was able to grab Medrano’s gun and opened fire, striking Medrano once in the shoulder. The two suspects then fled on foot, leaving behind two women who were waiting in a nearby getaway car. The would-be victim who acquired the gun held the women at gunpoint until authorities arrived, while Medrano and Aguilar apparently hitched a ride to the hospital from someone in a passing vehicle.

Medrano and Aguilar were later arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, and one of the women, Michele Gamse, was also taken into custody and charged. The second woman was set free due to lack of evidence.
