  • well well well…

at least I now know that our good old German Grünkohl is known in your Anglo-Saxon World as Kale.
But not all recommendations in this “eyample” list are as “super” as kale and broccoli.

Acai berry??? ok it may be healthful, but tell me about anyone who likes its TASTE! You won´t find one.
This black fruit, however, has an European “cousin”, Sandthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides). Its orange-yellow berries contain essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins of a kind similar to Acai. Their taste is sour but not oily. The juice of Sandthorn is sold, at relatively low price, in the dietary departments of many German groceries, and also in our Apothecaries. We use it to ward off the flu in winter, because of its high content of vitamin C. Why does that article mention Acai but not good old cheap Sandthorn? Because it is kind of an ad, I think.

Sweet-water algae? It is true that both spirulina and chlorella can give us high-quailty veggie protein and that it is good to keep working on the development of its growing, harvest, and industrial use, with regard to the facts of population growth. But as long as we cannot eat bread and noodles made with chlorella or spirulina derivatives the intake of sweet-water algae will remain only a marginal source of vegetable protein, even in Veganic eaters. It would have been better for practical use in daily life to mention the protein content of … sunflower seed. This simple, cheap grain is one of the best sources both for veggie protein and for high-quality plant fat. All people in Russia and East Europe like to eat sunflower seeds as a snack, as we Westerners use peanuts, and in fact they are nearly as valuable for nutrition as Peanut. In our groceries, peeled (unroasted) sunflower seed is available for less than two euros per kilogram. We like to put them into the muesli. Many brown German bread sorts are made with sunflower seed (and other proteinaceous seeds, as Poppy and Lineseed), and all people who eat “high-protein” for the sake of body-building or similar reasons prefer those sorts. One of them even wears the brand name of “World Champ Bread” (Weltmeisterbrot).

    Bon appétit!
