(Before It's News)

Driver’s going through Baltimore’s Harbor Tunnel last week may have thought they hit the jackpot when the doors of an armored truck malfunctioned and sent bills flying all over, but authorities said those who collected had until Saturday to return the money or face the consequences.

Trevor Stanton, who witnessed the mayhem unfold around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, said bills were scattered everywhere and with some people stopping to cash in, an eight-hour traffic jam ensued. Stanton said it was “pretty crazy.”

The Maryland Transportation Authority would not confirm how much money went missing, but did say not all of it has been returned. Authorities initially asked nicely for the funds to be returned, but city prosecutors said if the remainder of the money wasn’t returned by 5:00 p.m. Saturday, those who loaded up on the loot may face theft charges.
