(Before It's News)

Jared LaMarche of Windsor Arms Co. showed me their modified RPD machine gun.

Barrel Body Text

Muzzle break on the RPD

The RPD is the Russian equivalent of the M-249 SAW machine gun. Windsor Arms specializes in building and customizing military rifles including registered machine guns. They took an Egyptian RPD parts kit and transformed it into a very unique and impressive weapon.

They crafted a new thicker and shorter 10″ barrel to eliminate barrel whip which is when you fire in full auto and the barrel moves like a whip. The short barrel made a custom gas system necessary using a short gas piston. They finned the barrel for cooling and added a very efficient muzzle break to control muzzle rise. A front foregrip with built in bipod eliminates the RPD’s original cumbersome bipod and allows it to be fired prone and standing.

They chopped off the rear stock and replaced it with a section of 20mm Vulcan cannon barrel and mated it with a M249 SAW adjustable buttstock. The original pistol grip was replaced with an AK47 pistol grip. Lastly, they fitted a red dot sight on the top.

The gun fires 850 rounds of 7.62×39mm per minute.
