Too frequently we are faced with dealing with overzealous, egotistical cops that have no regard for the safety of citizens or the oath to the Constitution that they are sworn to uphold.
In a video released on Sunday July 5th, an incident is shown in which a Chicago Police officer attempts to intimidate a man using force and scare tactics. The video begins by showing a man pressed against the side of a vehicle and one of the officers saying “Did you just make a move toward me mother f*****?” Throughout the video, the man denies any accusations of being threatening or aggressive and claims that he’s been stabbed in his arm; his arm contributing to “the move” the officer claimed he made against him.
In what sounds like a prison yard fist fight about to occur between inmates, the officer continues barking at the man saying, “make a move toward me like that again, I will show you exactly what I can do, make a move against me, I wish you would”. Ironically, about half way through the video, you can hear the officer saying “That’s considered assault”. However, defined by law, at this point the officer has assaulted the man multiple times; all the while the second officer stands idly by.
Once more, the officer threatened the detained man and the person recording, ordering them to “disperse” and if he sees them again, he proclaimed, “I’m gonna lock you up I don’t give a f*** if you’re in front of your house, I don’t give a f*** if you’re in front of the corner store, I don’t give a f*** if you’re just walking, I’m gonna lock you up” Certainly the officer must know that those are not just grounds in which to arrest someone defined by any law. The handcuffs were removed from the man and he was free to go with no charges against him.
Incidents such as these invoke the question, how many others have experienced this type of treatment and have been killed by police? Unfortunately, they are almost always justified because the officer feared for his/her life.
