The purpose of any investigation is a search for the truth. The goal of any investigation and/or resultant adjudication should be the presentation of unbiased facts and evidence to a prosecutor. The investigators and prosecutors should ultimately advocate for the facts and evidence. However, from time to time, police investigators shade their fact-finding function into an attempt to achieve what they believe to be “justice.”
