Ali`i Mana`o Nui Lanny Sinkin: The State of Hawai’i Board of Land and Natural Resources adopted new rules designed to drive the Protectors off the Mountain and enable the Thirty Meter Telescope construction to proceed. The new rules prohibit camping; being in possession of equipment that could be used for camping, e.g. a blanket; and close a large area of the Mountain on either side of the access road between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
The enforcement agents of the BLNR have served the new rules on some of the Protectors three times at the 9,000 foot level where the 24 hour vigil has been based. Presumably that service is a prelude to BLNR enforcement agents acting to enforce the rule against “camping.”
The King prepared a Special Order addressing this situation that will be served upon any State of Hawai’i law enforcement agents seeking to enforce the new rules along with a list of the possible crimes that such agents will be committing on Kingdom land, should they proceed.
