A gathering of friends at one man’s Chicago home over the weekend turned deadly for one man after he was warned repeatedly not to touch his friend’s Cadillac and failed to do so.
John Watley flew into a rage when his friend, Anthony Strong, and others wouldn’t keep their grubs off his Caddy, so Watley went inside and grabbed a machete in an attempt to make his request a little clearer.
Still, Strong kept touching the car, so Watley went back inside and exchanged the machete for a 9mm, walked outside and shot Strong in the chest. Witnesses said when Strong’s wife came outside and attempted to help him, Watley reportedly told her to just let him die.
Watley, whose only criminal history was for an auto theft back in 1977, was charged with first-degree murder and is being held with no bail.
The men had apparently been friends for more than 40 years.
