(Before It's News)

One of New York City’s most expensive restaurants has agreed to pay a $500,000 settlement against a complaint that it funneled tip money intended for servers back to the restaurant.

Associated Press reports via The Guardian:

The settlement covers the period from January 2011 through September 2012. [State attorney general Eric Schneiderman] says Per Se added a 20% service charge for private banquets.

Schneiderman says the surcharge should’ve been paid to the waiters. But he says Per Se funneled the money back to restaurant operations instead.

Per Se says the violation was an unintentional oversight.
