An Ohio man faces charges for petting a cougar at the Columbus zoo. He will face trespassing charges for hopping a small fence that is a spacer between guests and animals, to get closer to the cougars in their pen. He can be heard saying, “Here Kitty Kitty…” He then hops the fence and sticks a finger through the cage as the cougars warm to his touch.
Like any cat, they grant access to their necks to be scratched. Cleveland Scene says,
The Columbus Zoo officials are calling the video “alarming” and are looking to prosecute 35-year-old Joshua Newell for trespassing.
Wait! Are they prosecuting him for trespassing, or for sharing his video on You Tube? If he hadn’t shared it, no one would even know it happened. Not to mention, the cats aren’t complaining, so what;s the big deal?
This guy is a grown man who saw an animal begging for human contact. He obliged the animal and is now in trouble for it? I call the zoo hypocritical for keeping the animal in a cage in the first place, and then having the balls to scold Josh for anything! Im sure the cougars would much rather be roaming the wild from whence they came, so quit being all holier than thou and trying to get the authorities involved. You wanna ban the kid for life, fine. But to have him pay someone restitution? Who was hurt? Who gets the fine he will pay? The state? For what? How were they hurt? Because they were embarrassed by letting this kid get this close to a dangerous animal. is why. Because their security is for shit, and they failed to apprehend him in the act. Id love to see what would have happened to his camera if he was caught in the act. I wonder if we would be looking at a video of an assault by security on ol’ Josh here!
They even go as far as to accuse him of trying to stick his fingers in the cats mouth. He did nothing of the sort. The video I see, he stuck a finger in the fence and the cats moved into the positions they wanted to be scratched in. It was coincidental contact with the cats mouth. To try to make it seem like more it just ridiculous. I hope any judge in Columbus Josh runs into, can see the folly and dismiss this case in the interest of saving Ohio taxpayers some money!
