Scientists have found that the non-psychotropic compound in marijuana by itself is sufficient to heal bone fissures.
Researchers at Tel Aviv and Hebrew University have come to realize that taking pot while having a broken bone may significantly enhance the healing process and make the bone tougher to break in the future. They have noted that our skeleton itself is regulated by cannabinoids (the essential compound of cannabis). Their findings indicate the marijuana may also help with osteoporosis and other bone-related diseases. The results are published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.
Marijuana was banned in the 1930’s due to legislation against the dangers of addiction. Some have argued the ban was a cover-up for the real reason cannabis was banished from the psyche. The Hemp (a variety of cannabis) and the hemp industry was being thought of at the time to be a very useful natural product to be used in the Automobile industry and be grown by farmers. The idea was fiercely and quickly fought off by big oil and pharmaceutical companies who preferred plastic and the by-products of the black gold.
Forward reports:
“The clinical potential of cannabinoid-related compounds is simply undeniable at this point… it is possible to detach a clinical therapy objective from the psychoactivity of cannabis. CBD, the principal agent in our study, is primarily anti-inflammatory and has no psychoactivity,” said Dr. Yankel Gabet , who led the study along with Professor Itai Bab.
