(Before It's News)

Bomb disposal experts from MacDill Air Force Base went to work to vaporize a M122 Photoflash bomb left over from World War II last weekend.

Located just outside Tampa, an Explosive Ordinance Disposal team from the base were dispatched Sunday afternoon to nearby Pass-a-grille Beach to tackle a barnacle-covered piece of ordnance that washed up in the surf that morning. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be a 107 pound photoflash bomb likely dropped during exercises in the 1940s, and was still live.

As noted by MIT, the M122 was typically filled with a minimum of 75 pounds of photoflash powder and were used to produce enough light for nighttime surveillance photos to be taken.

The EOD team lit it up with some C-4 and got back to business.

Local reports detailed that sea turtle nests in the area were unharmed.
