Arizona Republic: Facts take a back seat to agenda

Friday’s above-the-fold headline in the Periódico de la República de Arizona (Arizona Republic) is instructive. In the unlikely event anyone needs a reminder of the open borders / amnesty agenda of the left-wing newspaper, this headline referencing the first GOP debate forum should disabuse them of such a notion:

REPUBLICAN HOPEFULS DRAW A HARD LINE ON IMMIGRATION.

“Immigration” describes the lawful process of entering a country — in this case, the United States of America — with the intent of becoming a citizen and embracing our heritage, language and way of life.

Illegally entering our country is not immigration.

Those who follow law to become citizens must demonstrate their good moral character, a proficiency in English (speaking, reading and writing) and basic knowledge of American history and civics. They must attend interviews, take tests, fill out forms, and pay fees.

Their efforts are ultimately rewarded as they recite the Oath of Citizenship becoming naturalized American citizens:

“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.”

By repeatedly misrepresenting what actually defines an “immigrant,” the Arizona Republic engages in deception unworthy of an allegedly legitimate purveyor of news. Journalism was once regarded as a trustworthy industry where facts were presumed to drive content. With its incessant and deliberate skew, the Arizona Republic falls far short of fulfilling that obligation. On this crucial subject and others, it promotes agenda-driven sensationalism and stridently displays its lack of integrity, which explains its downhill spiral.
